Mountain Biking in St Helens
St Helens MTB trails
Wanting to explore the coast on two wheels? We don’t blame you.
The French House is perfectly set up and closely situated for groups wanting to shred some of the most scenic trails in the world, The St Helens MTB trails.
A short 10 minute drive will take you to the trailhead in St Helens so you can choose your adventure for the day. However, if riding mountain to sea is more your style then you can take a 30 minute drive straight to the Blue Tier trailhead for the epic Bay of Fires ride. A little on the difficult side but well worth the effort, this trail treats you to endless vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges and a stunning coastline before ending on the pure white sands of swimcart beach. After a long day on the trails there’ll be no need to rush to the showers, as all five of our suites feature their own ensuites. So take your time, enjoy your own space and then return to the group and pull up a chair on our large indoor or outdoor table settings to reminisce about your day on the trails.

Need a shuttle or bike hire to take on the St Helens MTB trails?
Within 5 minutes of The French House you’ll find our friends at Gravity Isle and Vertigo who can help you with all your shuttle and hire needs. Gravity is the main St Helens Trail provider. They offer bike, eBike and helmet rentals and run regular shuttles to both the Flagstaff St Helens run and Blue Tier. If you have a large group of riders and would prefer a pick up and drop off option they can also organise a designated charter service from The French House.

Shred through every season
The St Helens Trails run year round and when Derby can get a little wet in winter St Helens drains very well. Every level of rider is well catered for and the trail from town to the trail head is along a stunning track around the bay. The views are spectacular in any season! Just make sure to prepare your gear according to the weather.

Break some gear?
There is a great little Giant Bike shop in town for emergency spare parts and bike rentals including eBikes, if they don’t have what you need then you can talk to experts in Launceston. We recommend Sprung as a great place to start, for any parts in Launceston you’ll need to drive 2 hours to pick them up or get the parts delivered by courier to St Helens.

Explore a bit further at Derby
If you’ve taken on all of the trails at St Helen’s and still want more then Derby should be added to your list! An easy and scenic 1 hour drive through dairy country and up and over the Blue Tier range. These trails were one of the first to put Tasmania on the map for Mountain Biking.
For shuttle services in Derby we recommend Vertigo and Mad MTB who take amazing service to the next level. They have backed the town from early on and help both novice and experienced riders enjoy an awesome day out. You can pre-book group tours or book individual shuttle packages with both companies. If you’re still looking for more after Derby check out Ride Tasmania, they have a lot of great trail info if you’re wanting to ride around more of our amazing state.
